#735: EPL TOTS + THE STATE OF THE MARKET

[00:00:06] Good evening footies, welcome to episode 735 of FUT IN REVIEW. My name's Neil and I'll be your host on tonight's pod. I'm debuting as my good go tonight so go easy on me please, it might be my last, depends on how it goes. It's fantastic weather outside but no excuse, foot's got to be played, it's team of the season, week two, it's fantastic. Premier League talks this week followed by the EFL and the Women's Super League. Who looks good? We'll discuss the kind of things coming up as well.

[00:00:36] Season passes out as well, we'll discuss if that's got any value. We'll also have a discussion with Silver Icons because they have a big part to play in the new season. We also have a half time top five quiz. I prepared this specifically for my two guests and we'll get to when it comes. I've thrown a little curveball in but they'll both love it I'm sure. Second half tonight we have asked the community what they want to discuss.

[00:01:02] So we will be discussing the current state of the foot market, trading market and how things are going with that, what the future holds with that. So I hope my guests are gentle with me being on my debut. I hope I do okay and let me introduce you to both. Both familiar faces to the pod of course. At least it's not me hosting today or precious on you but best of luck. Well, I don't think it can get much worse than a start like that. Let's be fair. The Gremlins and what's worse is I can't unplug it because it's a portable device so let's hope that doesn't happen again.

[00:02:26] Start as always with the show. We've got our usual formats. First half, second half. We've got our warm up pre-hand. A week in foot. But Homer, how's your week in foot been? How's Serie A touch treated you and have you got any of the players that you wanted to pack? Relatively alright. First return to weekend league since swaps. Got nine wins. Could have probably got 11 but I messed up two games. The red picks were alright.

[00:02:56] I've got Mike Mannion and Ramon so I was happy with them. Card wise, none of the big ones at all. They all eluded me. Out of the inter four I only managed to get a kanji so I'll need to try and probably pick up the rest of them on the transfer market. But yeah, really good that I completed the silver tournament or silver league thing. Got my 20 wins pretty easily. All the other live events. Won them all pretty comfortable as well. Got my rivals. Got promoted to div 2. So yeah, pretty good.

[00:03:27] That's great. My first touch last week was a kanji. It was the first one I packed and I was really happy with it. How did you find chance? Just out of curiosity. I managed to get my usual eight wins. The listeners don't need to guess that. They know what I got. I bottled nine. I played a really good player. But I had a fair crack at it. You think it's really sweaty? I found it just as normal as before. I know obviously EPL tonight's the big one.

[00:03:56] So most people, when it comes to Serie A and Bundesliga and the other ones, it's not as sweaty as much. So I think there was maybe two or three games that I got absolutely outclassed by. The people were just far better than me. Two games, like I said, really should have won maybe 50-50 at best. But I absolutely bottled them. But nine wins for my first time in how long it goes. What? Months? I'm pretty happy with it. Very good. That's great stuff.

[00:04:23] John, I noticed in the Discord this week that you've actually been active and participating in this week. How's your week been? Yeah, cheers. Just saying I wasn't active because I wasn't doing anything. I wasn't active playing because my hand didn't allow that. But that is slowly changing. So that's good stuff. Not champs-worthy, honestly. I'm still a bit slow. Do you used to pick up any of your Firenod players? All of them. Good. Good take on. All of them.

[00:04:51] Yeah, so two things. I am playing the 4-3-1-2 currently, which I quite enjoy. Players are getting better, so you can be a little bit more on the offense. I bought Ueda, who is my striker. He's great for me. Valente, Valente. Valente, I bought. It's all right. It's like not the best player in my team. But I'm also just going to play him anyway.

[00:05:21] Same goes for Watanabe. I packed Ndika. I packed Ndika. Not very expensive, but pretty good, honestly. He gets good reviews from what I've seen. Yeah, I quite like him. But there's one player which I packed, and I was like, might as well try him anyways. Now I've got him in. It's the right-back Najjar. Or Najjar. I don't know how you pronounce him. The MLS right-back, right?

[00:05:51] Actually, if I don't pack an armor right-back now, he replaced Dumfries, which says a lot, I think. Really fast. I think I packed him about seven or eight times at Najjar this week. He seems to be one of the very few that I pack over and over again. I'm finding, I personally find this week's been a bit, I've not noticed him. He's packing the big hidden cards. Even Serie A cards seem to be very rare from what I've seen. Well, there's two players which I packed as well, mate.

[00:06:21] I packed Trakosha. Trakosha? The goalkeeper. Goalkeeper. I think he's really good. Although, I've got Anjere, the icon. I don't know what the trophy is. The trophy icon, I guess that's it. Yeah. I still think she's the best goalie in game. Yeah, she's small, but she's so ridiculously fast. Plus, if you double tap, she just extends that lag, magical lag. Just gets the ball.

[00:06:48] But there's one player that I think they were running a scam, Neil. I'm not much of a, how do you say this, a conspiracy theorist. But I'm definitely going to get there now. Because you know these SBCs that give you one player. The one thing with guaranteed thingies. You can do three times. They were out Friday, Saturday, and they were out Sunday and the rest of the week. I did it three days in a row. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. From nine picks, and that's also why I stopped.

[00:07:18] From nine picks, I packed the same player seven times. Seven times. Surge. Seven times. Surge. So I actually have six surges. It doesn't look all that bad, but still not good enough, of course. I got six surges on my SBC storage list. And I stopped doing the SBC. Yeah, you should. It's really good for you. Good to hear your weeks, guys.

[00:07:48] We've got another big, massive promo again tonight. Let's get stuck into it. And let's get our first half underway. So we have English Premier League. We have the EPL Mix from Otagara. And we have the Women's Super League. From what I can see, I've not been online, but I've had a look at the promo. And it seems to be sort of similar to last week in the sense of some very, very high-rated cards.

[00:08:17] From what I can see, there's maybe three or four with four play styles. And there looks to be a lot of 90-91 rated cards that we'll be packing all week, I would suggest. Homer, have you had a look? Yeah, I've had a look at them all. Some really good cards. I'm surprised at some of the prices, like Timber and Donnarumma. I thought they would be far more expensive for the cards that they are.

[00:08:45] But yeah, some really good cards in there. And how much is Donnarum going for currently then? 440,000. Hmm. Probably dropped about, what, 250, 260 by the end of the week. Something like that. I mean, I've packed one so far. I've packed Lewis Hall. And he was already at 16,000 coins. He looks pretty good as well. He's got three play style pluses. He's got long ball, anticipating, quick step. They seem to be giving him good play styles from what I can see.

[00:09:15] Empty Fancy. Who's Karner? Who is that? Garner, James Garner. Yeah. The Everton player. Oh, right. He looks okay. He's already at discard place. I mean, ping pass, tiki-taka and intercept pluses. They seem to all be getting great play styles, but they seem to be really, really cheap a lot of these cards, don't they? I think there's a couple of players which look really cheap. What about, what, Pedro? Yeah. The striker, of course. Looks extremely cheap.

[00:09:45] Why is he, why is he, why is he, why is there four Chelsea players and team of the season? I've noticed that in free fall. Well, I think Kucurella might be, like Kucurella might be the biggest standout. But also, I don't, the Premier League, I mean, that says Grimm as well, but I think Premier League isn't like honestly based. Like I said, last week, A-Division, Serie A looked like proper league prices. Like they made sense.

[00:10:15] I don't think Premier League, it's like 80% has to make sense to the other ones and then they're just to sell packs, right Grimm? Yeah, last week, yeah, I think there was maybe, you could say one, maybe two players missing from each team that would make sense, but the rest of them all merit. This one, you do look at it and you're like, why are a few of them in there? Seems to be a more, a lot more of the honourable mentions than the breakthroughs, it seems.

[00:10:43] Have I got this wrong, guys? There's three Man City players in this team in the season, yeah. There's Haaland, four. From what I can see, there's Haaland, Cherokee, Donnarumma, Semenyo, four. Yeah, four. Realistically, they're probably going to go on to win the league, aren't they? Apologies to Arsenal fans out there. Else you just jinxed them, so there's that. That's a great debut there, by the way, Neil.

[00:11:13] Just jinx the Premier League Championship on your debut. From what I can see, Arsenal have been top of the league forever. They've been top since the first game of the season, pretty much, haven't they? They've got, what I can see, three cards? Maybe four? Four? Yeah, they've got Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, and I think Rice. So, yeah. Goalkeeper as well. Goalkeeper, right? I mean, look at it.

[00:11:40] Saliba, he's 2.75 million coins currently, 95 rated. Three play styles. He's got intercept plus, anticipate plus, blueser plus. He's got no pinged or tiki-taka. If that worries you, would any of you be willing to pay 2.7 million coins for that kind of card? I was at the hope of packing them, yeah. I've had the coins, I'd buy them straight away. Yeah. Probably the best defender in game.

[00:12:09] Yeah, I know he's not got pinged pass or tiki, but he's got long ball server. His stats themselves, they're really solid. He's got the best defensive play styles. And I'm pretty sure he's lengthy. He is lengthy. So, what more do you want from a centre-back? He's tall. He's strong. He's fast. I literally can't see a weakness in that card at all. Like I said, best defender in the game right now. Selling it well. What about you, John? Your thoughts on that?

[00:12:38] Well, for me, it's a dream scenario. If I ever have coins, I wouldn't be spending it on the defender, that's for sure. But I think he is worth his price, though. And I don't think it's actually a bad price for a defender, that's it. Better? My pick would be Van Dijk over him. But I don't think Saliba. I think Saliba's a really cool card. Better than Gabriel, who's currently 1 million coins Dira. More expensive. It's nitpicking, right?

[00:13:09] He just has anticipated Jockey and Bruiser. So, that's nice. A lot of coins, isn't it? 3.5 million coins for a centre-back, isn't it? Well, that's the point, right? I mean, if you can buy Haaland currently for like 3.5, I see. It's 3.6. I'd rather buy a striker like that than I've spent it on my defenders. It's going to make a difference to your team, isn't it? It's going to be scoring goals. It's going to up your team. It's going to up the ante for you, isn't it? I mean, looking at it.

[00:13:39] Myself, there's Van Dijk. I'm just looking at Van Dijk. He's just about 3.5 million coins. He looks absolutely fantastic as well, doesn't he? I think absolutely. But the thing is, though, like Neil, I've been playing again and I've been rusty, right? And then you look at my team and then my defenders are probably worth 60K or something, if you look at them, with Ndika and Watanabe.

[00:14:08] I even have an 87-rated round left-back. And I was still playing Division 2 this week, right? And pretty much holding on. So, I mean, I think most defenders currently are already good enough. I'd never spend this amount of money on a defender because it won't make the difference you want them to make. If you pack them, absolutely terrific, right?

[00:14:36] And it can definitely help you be a little bit more secure whenever you start up a game. You have a Van Dijk in your back line. It will definitely not hurt your winning chances, but it will definitely not dip the skills, I think. So, I'd never spend it on a defender. Yeah, you're absolutely right. I couldn't agree more with that. I mean, if I was to pick... And again, I'm playing way down top, right? So, I don't know how much I can say. If I personally was to pick a player looking at it, I mean, I did the Ryan Cherky SBC.

[00:15:05] It felt like it was only a couple of weeks ago. It must have been a bit longer than that now. And love that card. Cherky currently is going for 420K. Plays right mid-cam, right wing, five-star, five-star. But he has got finesse plus, first touch plus and technical plus. He'd be really good at cam, I would say. That'd be what I personally would go for. Would you just have a pick yourself, Omar? Is there one player that you would just... Price doesn't matter. No, let's not say it doesn't matter.

[00:15:35] Let's say... Let's go for one of the cheaper end cards. Is there somebody that you would say, yeah, I would like to have him? Bruno? Bruno? Cheaper end? Say Bruno. Six million. No, Bruno Gumerish. He's only, what, 40K? If we're going for the cheaper end, he's four-star, four-star. I thought you were going for Fernandes. Sorry, mate. No, cheaper end. Bruno Gumerish. Four-star, four-star. He's got Tickey.

[00:16:05] He's got Bruiser. He's got Inventive. He's got Gold Placehouse. He's got Finesse. Game Chamber. Incisive. Pint. Long Ball. Intercept. Press Proven. He can play any CM or CDN position. It's not maybe the best card in-game, but I'd say if you're looking for a cheap option, he is really good. Absolutely. I got one better, maybe. Go on. Neil? Igor Tiago.

[00:16:35] Do you know what? He's the least top... The legend is six foot three, right? Yeah. League's top goal scorer. I thought he'd make him a bit better. I've got a really good foot birthday card of him as well. That card looks really fun. Five-star week, foot on him. Powered shot, low-driven. Rest Proven. Six foot three. 40k. I mean... If you want to... That's why I say, like, you know what? You can just build your team. Just... Slam for you as well. Tall Player Meta's back.

[00:17:02] There's people using Tall Player Meta and are using Whip Crosses at times, and he's perfect for it. He's a great shout, yeah. I'd have to say. Power shot, gold. So if somebody's playing quite deep against you, if you can get him to come short a bit, he's got false 9++, so you could have him come short, get the ball, turn, have a power shot from distance. It's a great weapon to have. 98-field power. Mad. Absolutely mad. It would be unfair of us to not look at the other two leagues. I mean, I'll be honest,

[00:17:33] there's not many players in it I'm aware of. The Women's League, there's a few names I'm aware of. If the EFL wins, I'm a bit lost, personally. Is there any cards in there? I mean, there's a 95-rated striker in there. There's a 96-rated midfielder called Hackney, who plays for Middlesbrough. He's 440k at the moment. Is there anyone there, John, that you would say in the EFL or the Women's League that you would say, yeah, they look like banging cards? Yeah.

[00:18:03] Kasperij, the Dutch right back, of course. From the EFL, I think. Women's League, sorry. I think she looks absolutely amazing, but she's already, like, she's 400k. I think I'm not the only one thinking that. Really looks really good. But I could say Miedema, because that card does look really fun as well. 30k, a technical, low-driven, press-proven.

[00:18:32] I think we've had a special episode about her previous cards before. And, of course, Shaw looks terrific. And I don't think 1.5 million is that much of an ask for a card like that as well. But there's, like, there's what I really like. We had a lot of comments last week, by the way, about us saying, basically more great than me saying we think team of the season came out with a bang, right? And that we like team of the season.

[00:19:02] But, like, I'm using five new players in my main team. And my team didn't get any weaker because of it, even though I don't, many people don't know the players. I think that's the fun. And if you look at this team, you've got Thompson. Okay, 600k. But you also have Miedema for 30k. You've got a really cool right midfielder. Godfrey? 13k. Hazegawa looks good as well. Hazegawa, 40k. It's free pretty much, isn't it?

[00:19:33] And I like that fact about, like, the whole team of the season factor. And then bringing out four teams again. And, yeah, I think that's really cool. But Gus Perai would be my shout-out. Yeah, good stuff, Homer. MD, you want to pick out before we move on? My fan favourite for this whole cycle has been Alicia Thompson. She has priced at 622, but she's just a phenomenal winger. And from the EFL, the right back for Millwall, Kramer.

[00:20:02] I think he looks fantastic. Arguably top five right back in the game right now. I'm just looking for him. I'm sorry. Yeah. Okay. On you go, explain. Kramer found him. So he's, obviously, anticipate bruiser block. As he's gold, he's got pinged past, long ball whipped. Jockey intercepts, slight tackle on rapid. As he's silvers, stat-wise, he's got great stats. None of them are, like, super,

[00:20:32] but all round, as a balance, I think he's top five right back in the game. You see, one of the tallest right backs in the game. He looks some... He's tall. 6'4", but he can also play centre-back as well. Yeah, he's got the versatility, a centre-back as well. Tall and lean on him, eh? 90 pace. Yeah, he's length of it. I think he's top five right back in the game. Could easily put him in as centre-back and he'd be doing pretty well as well. Good. That's excellent.

[00:21:02] I can afford him. Yeah, we're going to talk about that kind of stuff. Later on, I don't think there's that much content we could probably do a full, full pod on it, couldn't we? The other thing I wanted to touch on for the first half, new season passes came out based on the South Africa World Cup. Have I missed something? Have they missed out World Cups or are they just picking random World Cups? I mean, who was the last... Did they miss out? The last one was South Korea, Japan.

[00:21:31] They just picked random ones. They just picked random ones. Is that how it goes? So there's a premium... Premium Pass out again, guys. 500k, isn't it? Or you could go 1.2 million coins to buy the next three season passes. I'm sure a few people would have chuckled at that. John, have you looked at the season pass? Yeah, but honestly, I don't care at all. It sounds really boring, but I stopped buying them at all. Like, the moment you can get one of those...

[00:22:00] This is my same statement as I have on icon swaps, right? Usually when you're nearing the end, there's promo's been out that has surpassed these players most often. I don't think they're actually worth it. The only thing I was really thinking maybe it could be worth it when that weird package just slightly mentioned on the site came out this week where you could buy like three... The next three season passes for dinner or something? No, pretty much, yeah.

[00:22:31] So, then I was like, maybe, but then I was like, I don't care that much either. Never mind. So, I skipped it. No, I don't, I don't, I don't even do the... I casually do objectives while playing, right? But I don't do objectives and play according to them if that makes sense. I'm the opposite. I'm, I pretty much follow the objectives. I've bought a season pass every season. I've always made a point of completing it. This is the first season I've looked at it and I've kind of went, eh. There's nothing, I mean, that's just my view.

[00:23:01] There's nothing spectacular in it. Homer, what's your thoughts on the season pass and what's your thoughts on the silver icons coming back or the evil for the silver if you want to try and explain that for us? So, thoughts, it's, sorry, for me, it's one of the better ones. I normally hold off until I finish the season pass before buying it. But, if team the season, time we get to the latter stages, depending on how powerful the cards are and who I've packed, I could be really tempted

[00:23:31] just for the fact there's any Esther, there's Casillas and that Eagle Ass Pass looks like one of the best right mids in game for me. So, if I've not got anything better than A3, I probably will buy it. Never mind the packs and everything else. obviously, but the silver icons it was leaked by all the leakers. So, I've seen a lot of people rushing to get their Ronaldos and Ronaldinos in. So, there's the same as last year's World Tour aspect. You get to pick, once you hit the objective, you get the three

[00:24:00] different choices. You can get a defender, a midfielder, an attacker and then, there's three different levels and obviously, once you work your way up, you can improve them to be obviously a very top tier card for little much just grinding. 92 rated it takes them to, three playstyle pluses. By the time you finish these, what would they be top tier cards? Based on, just because they're the top icons, do you think that'll make them top tier? Otherwise,

[00:24:30] I'm not sure. Well, certain cards always have that icons have that special sauce like a Ronaldo, a Hullet, Maldini, they just play different in game but that silver Ronaldo using him in a silver tournament or league, whatever it's called, he absolutely tore people to bits. Maldini's just so good, so is Hullet. So, if you could evil them up, I reckon even for the three play styles being 92 rated and whatever comes out,

[00:24:59] I still think they would play different or better but again, it depends on who does come out, obviously future titles but to be honest, I'm not overly a fan of it because I like keeping my silver cards for the silver tournament personally, so it'd roll out having a tool for that objective for me. Yeah, I mean, I've, just to finally say, I've frankly collected these by accident, I've not shown an interest in them from day one, so it randomly pops up that I've packed,

[00:25:29] so a lot of week I packed, I can't remember, it was a two ram or something like that and I was like, alright, I had no idea they was doing the ejects, I've got a stack of them there, I don't know what I'll do with them, is the honest truth, I'll have a look, and I'll see myself. Like 150 games when we started, Neil, for someone, I don't know. There was a, Eusebio was a really high one and he wasn't one of the ones that I packed, the ones that I've packed are all being quite simple, ones that probably haven't noticed, just do them in the background. I think great in two days,

[00:25:59] so. Well, not that quick, but you get two options, it's either like you score so many goals or you play so many games or so many clean sheets, so it's easy enough that if you've got a very balanced and well-out team, like this one, we've got the Spirit of Africa tournament, you only need two African players, so you could build a team, put the two African players in and have pretty much Spanish players. You can put them on your bench, can't you? You can put them on your bench if you don't want to, but you can pretty much

[00:26:29] build a team, do that whole tournament and unlock all these cards while doing that tournament, so that's what I pretty much do, I just normally try and mash everything into one and just chip away at every objective in one slot, so I know it's not fair everybody, but I've always liked the Silver Stars, I liked when it was the Silver Team of the Weeks, I liked it when you go all the way back to the daily knockout tournaments and stuff, the Bronze and the Silvers, so for me it's just, I like having that aspect of using different parts of my
