632: Rush Mode Woes: The Struggles of Drop-Ins

[00:00:24] Nath is back from his holiday but you know I did hear the show he did with John yesterday

[00:00:31] and the amount of times I was slandered and mocked by Nath means I've dropped him from the show.

[00:00:36] It is an internal disciplinary matter and until we receive a full full apology from Nathan Downs

[00:00:43] he will not be permitted on the Tuesday club. My judgment is final and I'm very disappointed in him

[00:00:49] and you know the most egregious thing Shaq that he said was he described Reading as a small club

[00:00:55] and so for that reason alone he is banished from the kingdom of the Tuesday club.

[00:01:02] No in all seriousness it's just a scheduling thing. Nath couldn't join us and I decided to record early

[00:01:08] because you might hear from my voice I am a little bit poorly so I do apologize for that but we're gonna go.

[00:01:14] There's lots to get into on today's show. The guys kind of covered it on that mini show John and Nath yesterday.

[00:01:21] Their Evos are broken which is very disappointing for myself as a fan of a small club.

[00:01:26] I just but Reading are a smaller club. We've got gameplay frustrations and issues talked to you

[00:01:31] but also we're gonna talk about the positive side of things.

[00:01:33] We've been trying to enjoy the game this week and I'm gonna sort of reflect on the listening to the Art of Foot show

[00:01:39] that John and Artyn put out last week and how that's kind of allowed me to rebalance myself a little bit.

[00:01:45] But Shaq my friend how are you?

[00:01:47] Doing fabulous thank you very much. I think I was doing better last week when I hadn't played a weekend of champs

[00:01:53] but this week yeah I feel a little bit battle-hardened and I don't even know the right words to pick

[00:02:00] to actually emote myself in this particular situation but champs was not easy. It's not pleasant out there.

[00:02:07] Yeah what's it Nick run the fuck markets catchphrase this year is it ain't easy and

[00:02:13] it's a very apt phrasing because it isn't. I went eight and seven for the third week in a row.

[00:02:19] I am a model of consistency of 55% win percentage or whatever it is but it's just difficult and

[00:02:27] you speak to people anecdotally and I know some of our people in the discord like I know Adam for

[00:02:32] example. You're seeing lots of people now posting on social media and stuff that the struggle

[00:02:38] the meme that's been going around is like leave the FIFA before the FIFA leaves you and you're seeing

[00:02:42] lots of people that were like oh and they're posting they're like 40 and 0 screenshot on one hand and the

[00:02:47] other one they're like three and seven in champs and it's just this hyper competitive environment

[00:02:52] that EA fostered and we we talked about this on last week's show isn't it Shaq? It's

[00:02:56] is that funneling of only the very good players and also I think bearing in mind now that we are so

[00:03:03] far into this cycle and this type of game there's a lot of people that jumped on this bandwagon

[00:03:09] as the game got hyped around people like myself around COVID people are just really experienced

[00:03:14] now Shaq aren't they? I think there's not a lot of mystery now to the game. A lot of people

[00:03:18] really know how to play this game. Yeah I think a lot of people know how I just constantly think

[00:03:25] that I'm exposed because we do a foot podcast I thought I was exposed to all the stuff that I see

[00:03:31] on social media all the glitches and all the game the meta tactics as such but every opponent that I

[00:03:38] come across I feel like they've seen every video that I've seen and 10,000 more so it feels like they

[00:03:44] know exactly how to exploit every single move and I wonder how do these people know this much and

[00:03:49] yeah it's it's not easy out there man it's not easy. It ain't easy it ain't easy well look we've

[00:03:56] got some issues getting to do we're not going to try and dwell on we're going to try and be as balanced

[00:03:59] as we can and fair because there has been lots of nice fun things that we've done over the past week

[00:04:03] in this game and obviously lots of frustrations to get to as well but just before we dove into

[00:04:08] everything of course John and Nate recorded a little bit early yesterday for the daily show so they

[00:04:14] didn't get to Monday content I mean it's a good job they didn't wait for it Shaq because there there

[00:04:18] was literally nothing well there was something but pretty much nothing. There was an 80 plus upgrade

[00:04:26] which I think I'm already sick of it's day one and I'm already sick of that upgrade but yeah.

[00:04:32] Yeah the combo upgrade came out I think there were a couple of objectives as well

[00:04:35] but generally nothing and a pen that summed it up right it's just like EA have clearly got some

[00:04:41] issues going on because this doesn't feel like a regular content release schedule because it's just

[00:04:48] been such a ridiculously quiet weekend really. Exactly exactly it just doesn't make sense as to

[00:04:54] it's been quiet since the weekend since since Saturday it's been really dead and quiet and I don't really

[00:05:00] understand what's going on it's almost like they're working on some more pressing matters at this point in

[00:05:05] time but yeah we're still waiting for stuff to show up. Yeah and look it could be the whole uh the old

[00:05:11] you know we talk about this every year don't we EA like to go go up and then go down to try and keep

[00:05:17] people engaged and they can't keep everybody super super hyped with great content great content great

[00:05:22] content great content because all it does is it burns people out so what they do is usually there'll be

[00:05:26] a couple of weeks of great content and there'll be a quiet week where it allows everyone to kind of

[00:05:31] you know relax a little bit and and get excited and anticipated for kind of the next promo and we do

[00:05:36] tend to see second weeks of promos be that because they'll be trying to then get people excited for

[00:05:42] whatever the next promo is whatever the next kind of onslaught of content is but we do know

[00:05:47] that there are problems with evolutions again the guys mentioned it yesterday we'll dive into that

[00:07:01] think is the biggest struggle for ea right now broken evos or broken gameplay i hand the floor to you

[00:07:08] i've been thinking about this all day and the logical response would be yeah the gameplay issues are

[00:07:14] probably more widespread need to be more addressed quicker but i think the evolution issue that's

[00:07:20] happening right now probably is deeper than i probably gave any respect initially because

[00:07:25] we're we've discussed this before right now the state of the game the way it is with regards to

[00:07:31] the content that's coming out in the packs that are coming out in the players there's players that

[00:07:36] are really expensive there's players that are extremely cheap and there's hardly any players in

[00:07:39] the middle and i'll give you an example of my own team my team i have three evolution players

[00:07:44] from man united i have rashford menu and dalo and all three of them are really good players and that's

[00:07:50] the only way that i thought to myself that i can upgrade my team and keep it going and keep it at a

[00:07:54] level that i'm comfortable with yet having fun yet it doesn't really i don't feel like i'm being left

[00:08:01] behind and with this change i am i'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place because i don't know where

[00:08:06] to go from here and that's my example with having uh following a decent club i can try and you know be

[00:08:13] experimenting by stuff of the of the market if i choose to but if there's a lot of people that are

[00:08:18] doing an evo only squad and that's the way they find enjoyment they have absolutely no options right

[00:08:24] now and that's that's really it is quite frustrating in my opinion i think evo's really in my personal

[00:08:32] opinion i think it's a smaller thing to fix it's a quicker thing to fix this is what was my understanding

[00:08:36] the basic understanding so that's probably where i would be focusing my energy on and then fix the other

[00:08:41] bits your thoughts i mean look john and again i joke but john and nath summed it up really well he

[00:08:47] talks about you know people like myself and john talking for being reading fans and johnston fan

[00:08:51] there are lots of other fans you know who love boosting their own club so that and that's one

[00:08:56] thing it's i loved being able to evo up amadou and bengue and lewis wing both into usable players

[00:09:02] uh they're probably again they're off the pace and this well bengue's not but it's just difficult

[00:09:07] to link but wing is just very high 70s low 80s kind of player that you know they're a dime a dozen

[00:09:12] at the moment they go for 10k in promo teams it really gives you that connection to it and i think

[00:09:17] i've said it i think in our wrap-up show evo's were the best thing that came into the game last year

[00:09:22] and the hype that they created when they were saying like look we know you loved evo's we're

[00:09:26] going to make them even better this year and to have this problem is just it's really draining and

[00:09:32] the the bloom is off the rose with this game because i think already and it's stuff we'll talk

[00:09:38] about a bit later but it was all hyped rewards or relegations back it's a form-based matchmaking

[00:09:46] all of the things they kind of use to sort of say look we recognize the problems with fifa

[00:09:51] uh fc 24 here's what's going to be different in fc 25 i think a month into the game we're already at

[00:09:57] that kind of point where it's like is it that much better evo is because they're broken are not better

[00:10:05] um the rewards absolutely you can say monetarily yet of and bulk wise you are getting better

[00:10:12] and they are better but they're not better in the sense that you're massively looking forward to

[00:10:17] already it's you know show me once was it show me once shame on me

[00:10:22] fool me twice shame on me fool me once shame on you or whatever yeah you know we know what we're

[00:10:28] saying shack knows the analogy better than i do because my brain doesn't even work anymore um i've

[00:10:32] been playing squad battles this morning which is why i my brain is disengaged um and that's just it

[00:10:37] i mean i we we said at the start i've got eight wins three weeks in a row in weekend league i haven't

[00:10:42] got a sync i can't think of a single game changing pull i've had from that and rivals rewards as well

[00:10:48] i've got my 45 points in every week so far and my two best players i've got three what you would

[00:10:54] probably consider monster pulls so far from this game cycle uh some team of the week uh the defender

[00:11:01] arajo his road to the knockout and gold militao i don't think one of those came from actual rewards

[00:11:09] they all came from just random packs and upgrades and things like that so already i'm at the point where

[00:11:13] i'm like oh yeah rewards are better and yeah relegation's back the relegation's only back for

[00:11:19] the top four divisions so all you're getting now is a log jam in div three um which isn't particularly

[00:11:25] ideal and we've heard lots of other frustrations from people on that so i'm not going to get too

[00:11:29] deep into it but yeah and then you throw in this evo the whole evo thing was is that escape and like

[00:11:35] you say even for team for fans of you know bigger teams it gives that option to take that 6.5 7 out of

[00:11:43] 10 player and turn them into an 8.8 out of 10 player that then gets into your team and it fills

[00:11:47] that gap between the market because like you've said there are so many players you can go out and

[00:11:52] buy now that are less than 100k and are really decent solid 7 out of 10 players but then there's just

[00:11:59] this real dearth of players that you could spend about 300k on to 300k on that will really boost up

[00:12:07] your team and the evos were doing a good job at kind of filling that gap between them and now

[00:12:12] they've gone it's kind of this i don't know it's a bit of a barren landscape in that nice kind of mid

[00:12:17] tier exactly it's just there's a there's something really off with that aspect of the game i think

[00:12:24] with squad building as well i think we're all stuck in between a rock and heart place where we don't

[00:12:28] necessarily know what the next step would be because we all know that gold cards are probably attainable

[00:12:34] but we all know that gold cards say if you buy a gold card of say 500k right now you know that card's

[00:12:39] not going to be 500k in less than a week 10 days it's going to be much less than that as time goes

[00:12:43] on so you're you're not really considering gold cards you look at special cards and they're so

[00:12:48] expensive like for example a regular special card that might be like for example you have the

[00:12:53] human song that you have in your club that's a million plus and it's a tiny upgrade to the

[00:12:58] the gold card but it's a million coins plus so it's it's that and evos are filling that gap as you

[00:13:04] said but we're stuck in the middle where we're just waiting for something right now we're waiting for

[00:13:09] content that's actually desirable i know we're getting spcs sporadically here and there but it's

[00:13:14] not really filling that gap as he was we're doing a fabulous job of not really bottling everyone down

[00:13:19] a particular route they were giving a particular evo and you can choose whatever you like and

[00:13:24] shape it your way which is probably the most unique thing about evolutions yeah and look rush

[00:13:29] has been a a breath of fresh air when it works and again we've got our issues with rush that we'll get

[00:13:34] into but evos was almost like a game mode within a game mode it was that kind of almost like putting

[00:13:40] a little bit of career mode into ultimate team in that kind of i really like seeing my team evolve and

[00:13:46] it's given me something else to do it's given me that real reason to keep playing to play that extra

[00:13:50] rivals game to play that extra squad battles game and to take that away because of something that

[00:13:56] they've they've clearly not tested and again they've had a what a year plus making this game and since

[00:14:02] it's been out and nobody qa'd it just it's so ridiculously disappointing and and look i think

[00:14:09] this is something that ea will be keen to fix because again it's been pointed out paid evos yeah made them

[00:14:16] a lot of money last year and it's right well it drained a lot of coins which indirectly makes them a lot

[00:14:20] of money as well so i can't imagine the higher ups will be particularly pleased about this because

[00:14:24] it's stopping them from you know another revenue source and if it is taking hype away from the game

[00:14:29] that will again hit pack sales so they'll be keen to fix it exactly there's just just two more things

[00:14:35] about evos that really are bugging me is number one i don't necessarily know if the glitched evos that

[00:14:40] were happening have been corrected for example i don't know if the evos that i've done have

[00:14:45] is that it is or are they are the upgrades pending that haven't really pushed across because there's

[00:14:51] no communication really about that like whether it's all been done or and talking about no

[00:14:56] communication there's absolutely no communication on what's happening with the evolutions why they're

[00:15:01] not coming up with evolutions yet we get a squat foundation evolution that comes back to back which

[00:15:06] is like it's good because i could upgrade one of my plays i was using an ebony salmon which is great i could

[00:15:12] upgrade her slightly just just slightly but the next day they came up with the exact same evo that i

[00:15:18] couldn't really upgrade her again and i couldn't really didn't have any other player that was

[00:15:23] interesting enough to upgrade so it's just it's just off yeah it's off and look again hopefully they will

[00:15:30] be fixing this soon i know nath was you know he was joking yesterday saying that it could be they'll

[00:15:34] they'll quietly go away and fix it and it'll be fixed in january february i think again this will be

[00:15:38] something they'll be keen because it is a money generating part of the game i do think

[00:15:42] they will be committing resources to it however the problem is is again we've talked about this a lot

[00:15:47] in the past shack this game is built on such code built on code built on code built on code over so

[00:15:53] many years that sometimes there are these things that are just just broken and they don't know how

[00:15:58] to fix again i go back to that classic example of i think it was right at the end of fifa 21

[00:16:02] they announced uh a head-to-head evo that was going to give people i think new traits

[00:16:08] um and they then just had to pull it because they were like actually we can't upgrade the players i

[00:16:14] think it was jamie vardy against somebody else and the entire sbc had to be pulled because they

[00:16:19] were like actually we we can't do this so sometimes there are just things that are just purely broken i

[00:16:24] hope this isn't one of them but it is a wait and see so what about the second part of ingvi's you know

[00:16:30] question in terms of the biggest struggle for ea in terms of broken gameplay last week shack we

[00:16:36] talked about title update 3 it came out quicker than we thought and thankfully it did come out

[00:16:40] for next gen i mean what's your experience been where do you sit on gameplay now we've had a few

[00:16:45] days um after this mega patch oh look i'll be completely frank and honest let me just start by

[00:16:51] saying how do i start it firstly with regards to the patch i don't really see a significant change

[00:16:58] with the patch i still think the game is inconsistent and i really want to point this out before i go

[00:17:03] ahead any further about the gameplay issues is that inconsistency is the reason where sometimes i

[00:17:10] absolutely love the game i think the game is perfect in certain certain game situations i think everything

[00:17:14] is working exactly the way it's expected to work and i'm really enjoying myself even if i'm not winning

[00:17:19] that's fine i'm i feel like i'm i'm getting the intended result with regards to my passing

[00:17:24] i feel like things are working the way it should and some and next game it just feels completely the

[00:17:29] opposite where i can't even make a pass i there's a constant struggle to try and get the ball and i

[00:17:34] think some of the things that the whole community is experiencing right now that i really have

[00:17:38] experienced this past weekend playing champs was tackle backs i really don't understand where things

[00:17:43] like tackle backs where do we go from there i think it's a combination of the ea iq the new iq mixed in

[00:17:49] with the gameplay with the additional animations i don't really know i don't i don't want to pretend

[00:17:53] to know why that's happening but there's tackle backs one of the things that really has bugged me

[00:17:59] this year is the pace i know historically pace is king pace is kind of king this year in one way but

[00:18:05] then you can't really get away from your defender even if you do a speed boost from say uh three

[00:18:11] quarters of the pitch and you try to take off take off from there you do a perfectly executed move to

[00:18:15] get away you still get caught up and that's something that i really don't think we're i'm

[00:18:20] experienced to i just feel like i should be through on goal and never happens passing is inconsistent where

[00:18:26] i don't really know how to get to the place that i want to get to consistently unless you use someone

[00:18:32] like a patrick or bruno and you try those passes they still kind of work but for example you do a

[00:18:38] cross field pass like you did last year to switch the play it goes up in the air for so long

[00:18:43] they've kind of fixed it but it's still a problem ai runs and you shared something the other day about

[00:18:49] ai runs where you are you you trigger someone to make a run and then last minute they just turn

[00:18:55] around and come back even though they should be entering the box and that's just those sorts of

[00:18:59] things are consistent and lastly i think the defensive block i mean the defensive block i really it's

[00:19:05] starting to frustrate me because the only way i can get around it is pass to eternity left right left

[00:19:09] right left right or take a power shot and mind you the power shots absolutely work really well with

[00:19:15] the power shot plus play style plus um lastly the one positive is though i mean i know you've probably

[00:19:21] mentioned that you're not really happy with the finishing but i'm finding the finishing aspect when

[00:19:25] you get the space it's fairly consistent i think because i've probably been doing a lot more power

[00:19:30] shots and it's really consistent maybe that's what's skewed my mind a little bit about finishing but

[00:19:34] i'm finding crossbody finishes are working much better than i expected near post finishes are working

[00:19:40] again this is when you actually get the space but the other times yeah it's just pretty much hope for

[00:19:46] the best yeah look just to pick up on the finishing it for me it's just that when the player gets

[00:19:52] balled in the box like i've got son five star weak foot still the amount of times that it's either

[00:19:57] going wide or a keeper's just pulling off a ridiculous save i still think it's just a little bit

[00:20:02] annoying i think the game needs to reward you a lot more with if you get into that position you've

[00:20:08] worked that space you should be able to score with a good player i'm not saying if the ball falls to

[00:20:13] the feet of canate in the box they canate can't you know send it over the bar or wide but if it's

[00:20:19] someone like son that is in the box in that position i still think too many shots are either being saved

[00:20:25] or going wide it's not a ridiculous amount but it's still more than is enough and when you talk

[00:20:32] about things like power shots flying in that does kind of wrangle you a little bit because that feels

[00:20:37] a lot less deserved it feels more like someone abusing a broken mechanic than you know playing

[00:20:42] good gameplay and i think a lot you know you will see it a lot on social media in our discord and

[00:20:47] everywhere players being frustrated at trying to play good football and then not being rewarded at the

[00:20:52] end of it and i think if you go back to fifi 23 in particular finishing was if you got into

[00:20:57] those positions it was a goal and nobody was upset about that you know you can complain all you want

[00:21:04] about how you get into that position but i don't think there was anybody going oh god strikers are

[00:21:08] too op shooting is too op it was kind of like okay you've done me great you've scored a goal whereas

[00:21:13] now it's like you've done me but there's probably that i'd say maybe a 20 chance that you get away

[00:21:18] with it now which you didn't have before and that doesn't feel necessarily fair um other things to

[00:21:24] talk about ai runs i actually think they've been better since the patch i they they seem to be

[00:21:28] moving especially the cam and that was one of the positions they talked about specifically in the

[00:21:32] patch that shadow striker role i've got my edema in there and she does appear in the box a lot more

[00:21:38] than she did passing we were worried about ping passing uh the driven pass that's not i've not

[00:21:44] really noticed any different shack of you and not with the ping passing no not with the ping passing

[00:21:48] no so that all seems to be fine um five backs yeah they are still a little bit overpowered

[00:21:55] but there does seem to be a little bit more space i can see how they've stretched out as they said in

[00:21:59] the patch and you talk about the low block i mean i was what you know however many games i watched this

[00:22:04] weekend in real life football it's it's just a part of it's part of real life it seems to be now the

[00:22:10] amount of times you'll watch a game you'll see those two banks of four a bank of four a bank of five

[00:22:14] it's it's real football now again it's a whole bigger argument whether you want your fc25 video

[00:22:20] game to you know to model that but if they are going for realism and fciq you can see why that

[00:22:26] happens um again i i can't say facing five backs is driving me crazy but i've not been paying too much

[00:22:34] attention i don't think i don't face a lot of them i mean do you face a lot of them i probably maybe

[00:22:38] two in weekend league i'd not as many five of the backs as as we had pre-patch i think a lot of

[00:22:43] people were scared away with the with the bad changes but i think a lot of people have figured

[00:22:48] out a tactic where you have two banks of four literally one after the other so you have to get

[00:22:52] through the midfield before you can get through the defense and the defense is sitting well parked in

[00:22:57] the in the box so it does get a bit i mean if you're patient enough and you can pass a move like um if

[00:23:03] you can actually pass a move and be very patient with the game absolutely you could overcome these sorts

[00:23:08] of things and look this is just our or my take on how i like to play as opposed to how the game is

[00:23:14] actually wanting to be played there are ways around it absolutely there's certainly ways that you can

[00:23:20] overcome this sort of things but i just find that then i get stuck into the gap of i'm just not able

[00:23:26] to move across as quickly as i wanted to or yeah i think the the key thing is is has the patch made

[00:23:32] the game better and i think having played it for a few days i think it is a well for me i think it's a

[00:23:37] little bit better i don't think it's it's not revolutionized the way we thought it where it was

[00:23:40] going to be fc25 version 2.0 but do i think it's tweaked a few things for the better yes i do so on

[00:23:48] that i will give you a credit because it's certainly not made the game any worse maybe it's placebo

[00:23:52] effects but i i think it's i think it's that little bit better um in terms of inconsistent gameplay

[00:23:58] that you talk about we've got a couple of comments on that again remember if you're part of the

[00:24:03] discord you can listen to show live as 40 is doing and he says the gameplay is

[00:24:07] inconsistent sure but the way i look at it is to take it into my stride and focus on the basics

[00:24:11] pass move create by focusing on the controllables i've moved quickly from div 3 to div 1 and managed

[00:24:16] to get a rank 2 weekendly i agree with all that's been said but just a positive spin on how i have

[00:24:21] been managing and that is a really good comment to be made thank you for that forcey because that

[00:24:26] is one of the things i've mentioned in the intro shack is that having listened to the art of foot

[00:24:30] show again which is a patreon exclusive show with art and john and oftentimes nath as well

[00:24:36] and they just broke broke they cut through a lot of the mental stuff that we torture ourselves with

[00:24:41] shack and again that core key message of stop comparing yourself to everybody else stop worrying

[00:24:48] about what everybody else is doing and following matters and things like that try your best to learn

[00:24:53] the game try your best to improve and stop you know run your own race and i very much took that mantra

[00:25:00] into my weekend league and whilst my result was exactly the same at eight and seven i got so much

[00:25:06] less stressed i was so much more balanced mentally and i was just able just to sit there and say yeah i

[00:25:13] got frustrated in moments sure but overall i wasn't tearing my hair out thinking oh god i'm not going to

[00:25:18] eight wins or nine wins i'm a failure how could i do this it was a brilliant show to listen to and

[00:25:23] again what thought you said there i think focusing on yourself and yet you're gonna get moments of bs

[00:25:30] you're gonna get moments where you hate the game but just focusing on the okay am i doing that better

[00:26:23] can see that goal from was it something that i did and likewise at the other end was it you know did

[00:26:29] it was i rushing something was i you know and just looking that way and i am now very much and it's

[00:26:34] going back to what we were talking about with rewards earlier and now that i've seen that the

[00:26:39] difference in rewards is nothing i i've seen so many pack opening videos now for people getting

[00:26:44] rank three rank four whatever it is and they just get no better than me so why am i stressing about

[00:26:48] it what what what what is the point so yeah i'm very much trying to focus on playing better working

[00:26:54] your team into the style that i want to play and i'm finding that a lot better but just to just while

[00:27:00] we still on gameplay i wanted to get adam's thoughts in as well he says i think the game is off balance

[00:27:05] this year with weekend league being a small amount of games rivals being lots of games unless you are

[00:27:09] slow and get promoted that is gameplay is also wildly inconsistent for me uh people have mentioned

[00:27:14] it before and i sort of thought it was an excuse but the difference in gameplay across my three weekend

[00:27:18] leagues so far has been mad when game players fast and responsive the game is pretty fun when it's not

[00:27:23] the most most it's the most frustrating game ever i think also something odd is going on with content

[00:27:28] or lack thereof kind of think they need to do a little bit better for everyone and again i think

[00:27:33] we've kind of touched on all of that but about anything you wanted to pick up on no i think

[00:27:38] the minute i'll be honest with you the minute adam mentioned that he was struggling in champs i knew it

[00:27:42] was going to be a rough weekend league and that was that was exactly right because adam's not the kind

[00:27:46] of sort that would actually complain about the the game being hard so he's probably had a rough weekend

[00:27:52] and yeah so did a lot of us yeah and just on the mailbag front as well we've had a question from s

[00:27:57] uh he says whenever i play a formation with three out front always struggle to get the left wing and

[00:28:01] right wing involved in play i feel miles away from the striker i've tried short passing inside forward

[00:28:06] and attacking as this should be ideal from the heat map the best solution i've found so far is left

[00:28:10] ring right wing on inside forward and roaming can you give any tips so i can get the left wing and

[00:28:15] right wing to be less isolated and be more involved in attacks with the striker i'm going to defer this

[00:28:21] to the experts which is why we have team foot coaching doing these shows like john and nate and

[00:28:25] other stuff like that but i mean shaq any tips from you oh look uh that that that question

[00:28:31] actually piqued my interest and i actually looked at the player roles and broke it down i put it on a

[00:28:35] spreadsheet and started comparing the two and it doesn't make any sense as to why they're so wildly

[00:28:40] different and i know exactly what he means by the the wing is being isolated because i tried 433 up

[00:28:47] i've tried to love 433 for the past i don't know how many of years and this year i thought yeah 433

[00:28:52] is the formation with all these cool insightful no it just doesn't they those two wingers seem to be

[00:28:58] isolated and there's nothing i can do same way if i play uh 442 or anything with lmrm and have the

[00:29:05] same insightful way player role instruction it's wildly different the players are exactly where i

[00:29:10] expect them to be so i hopefully john and and art and nate can give us better understanding of that

[00:29:17] absolutely and we do have uh also in our uh in our little mailbag well in the live chat

[00:29:24] um shack we do have one of these which i'll play now foot coaching's top tip foot coaching's top

[00:29:35] tip comes from ingvey who suggests his tip of the day put passing to semi and feel more in control

[00:29:41] with passes they go where i aim and feel more in control when passing i'm going to give that a go

[00:29:47] again it'll be interesting to hear what john's view on that but what i will say actually is one thing i

[00:29:52] have changed i changed crossing to semi from assisted and i have found that crossing to be a lot better

[00:29:58] for me um especially using players like hemp and kelly as i have been i've very quickly just i

[00:30:04] crossing for me just feels much more natural and goes where i want it to go yeah you occasionally get

[00:30:09] it wrong but maybe that's something to look at for passing so i might have to go away and try that a bit

[00:30:15] shack and report back i think i need to get comfortable with trying to change some of those settings because i

[00:30:21] tend to stick to what i'm familiar with just because there's so many in variables that i try

[00:30:27] to keep those things in control exactly the way they used to be for me every year i don't really

[00:30:31] tinker too much with those sorts of things but i think i'm going to give this a go as well and report

[00:30:36] back yeah it's always worth a try and again just as john said why are you stressing about every single

[00:30:42] result like go away and try something and if you don't like it you know it's the same people talk about

[00:30:47] with food isn't it you know i can't really speak because i'm someone that's horribly fussy with food

[00:30:51] but it's like try it what's the worst that can happen um dr pepper style um let's move away from

[00:30:58] gameplay into rush then shack should we get our rush do you want to get your rush rant out of the way

[00:31:03] oh definitely definitely look i've got five dot points listed for rush which has really been bugging

[00:31:09] me because this is a game more that i really wanted to enjoy that i i do believe it's a fun game more

[00:31:14] if i had friends who are my irl friends who've all walked away from fifa if i could get them back

[00:31:20] right now to play this game we would all be having a blast of a time every single evening but they've

[00:31:27] all left the game so i'm left by myself trying to find drop-ins which is infuriating so away from

[00:31:33] keyboard so people when you play drop-ins it really annoys me that you can't really consistently get a

[00:31:39] game where all four players all eight players on the pitch are playing it doesn't happen i don't

[00:31:44] think i've come across a single game in the past maybe week where all eight players were playing

[00:31:48] in drop-ins it's really in that circumstance especially when one of your teammates is not

[00:31:52] playing it's really hard to get the win it's really hard to get the goal or assist because

[00:31:58] again you don't necessarily know who the heck is even playing that's one thing the other thing that

[00:32:03] really annoyed me this this particular week with the objectives is it's not clear it's a rush game mode

[00:32:09] with a rush card as part of the objective and they don't count for goals and assists and that's

[00:32:15] barely even mentioned anywhere and that infuriated me no end this week because the objectives are not

[00:32:21] clear as to what you have to do and no i think john was mentioning on the show that he did lots of

[00:32:26] goals and assists nothing even counted and that really ticked him off as well and that as it should

[00:32:30] and lastly the rewards for completing these objectives are extremely minimal it's so you're

[00:32:39] 140 000 points you get one pick and you know what just give me a pack of 25 non-rare goals that would

[00:32:48] mean a lot more to me yeah getting common goals has been really difficult in this game so far i think

[00:32:54] maybe it's just that we were spoiled by the exchanges um last year and i hope they come in

[00:33:00] sooner rather than later and the exchange i know we didn't get them till round team of the year last

[00:33:05] year i do hope they come in a little bit sooner than that yeah um but yeah i mean i i agree with you

[00:33:11] i mean i completed however many of those objectives again i didn't get anything um i did these objectives

[00:33:17] they released with the mls rush cars i didn't get anything and yet it's nice to have a little bit of

[00:33:22] extra incentive to try different cards and things like that as i said at the top of the show it's

[00:33:27] just like at this point you're just like i'm just fed up of 75 plus cards of 82 plus times three

[00:33:33] because they're just so often 82s like the weight is is garbage at the moment and i understand they're

[00:33:39] trying to keep the power curve going and things like that but i haven't found myself so early in a

[00:33:46] fc cycle thinking oh i'm gonna go off and play a bit of cod here or i'm gonna go off and

[00:33:52] just not play the game tonight and as someone that is borderline addicted to this game that is

[00:34:00] weird um i'm always focused on improving and getting better and it's odd for me to be thinking

[00:34:06] that so early in the game um definitely agree with everything else you said on rush the afk stuff is

[00:34:11] just nonsense i i branted about it last week just get in the bin get in the sea just get as far away

[00:34:16] from me as you possibly can the only i can say to our audience is if you play with someone who goes

[00:34:21] afk block them um the chance of you ever matching them again are obviously minuscule but if everybody

[00:34:28] blocks these people their pool of players they can play with goes down um that might seem harsh but

[00:34:34] i mean yeah it is what it is what it is and yeah again it goes back to the whole evo thing we were

[00:34:39] talking about the fact that you're not getting credit for assists with goals with rush cards is utterly

[00:34:44] bonkers especially when it's a requirement for most games you go into again just communicate these

[00:34:51] like ea's mantra over the past few years is hide until there is nowhere to hide it's just like

[00:34:57] we'll just quietly hide we'll get issues we'll fix them and then we'll announce when they're fixed not

[00:35:03] when there's a problem because i don't know they're afraid of all the negative social media

[00:35:07] and from a business standpoint i absolutely understand it but it shows the the contempt they

[00:35:12] have for us as a gamer base because it's basically like well again it's they're just sat there thinking

[00:35:17] where are you going to go like don't like it okay you might stop playing the game fine you might drift

[00:35:22] away there's going to be someone else that will replace you and will at least in the early days

[00:35:26] when they don't realize this stuff they'll come into the game and they'll like spend several hundred

[00:35:31] dollars or pounds um before they they get burned too hard so again i i'm literally losing my voice

[00:35:37] because i'm ill but i'm i'm losing my voice saying the same thing about ea that i've said since the very

[00:35:42] first time i came on this podcast until this competition there ain't gonna be no changes to it

[00:35:50] um i suppose the only other place to go here shack is is into one of our other regular features

[00:35:56] something that we enjoy talking about anyway um we will go into if i can find the appropriate slug

[00:36:21] player in view this week shack uh i'll start off with an expensive-ish one but i was lucky enough to

[00:36:26] pack the hamsic origin card uh on day one of eafc and originally i was like yeah whatever it's hamsic

[00:36:35] should be okay but then i didn't realize how good he actually was in game and how expensive his next

[00:36:39] level up card would be but that card is just ridiculously good and i cannot wait i think one

[00:36:45] of the things that's driving me to be excited about the game is hopefully to get an upgraded

[00:36:50] hamsic at the end of next month i'm really looking forward to that he's incredible he's absolutely

[00:36:55] incredible he can be a box to box he can actually be a cam i used him on a shadow striker initially and

[00:37:00] he was good but i've dropped him back to central midfielder in a 4-4-2 and he is just incredibly

[00:37:06] electric he can defend he can attack he can pass the ball he's got really good play styles he's got

[00:37:11] really good rolls i've really enjoyed he's got a power shot plus as well and that part i love the

[00:37:17] card the power shots his five-star weak foot shoots them in from wherever you get a free a bit of free

[00:37:22] space and not a lot of people come across hamsic so they don't really know what to expect of him

[00:37:27] and he just bangs in those those power shots if you can get your hands on a hamsic if you have some

[00:37:32] coins lying around certainly a card i would love to try so just jump in and try it out yeah he's given

[00:37:39] me plenty of problems when i've uh when i've come up against him uh the player i've picked again his

[00:37:43] very budget option is lauren hemp i touched on it earlier played with uh her and kelly as wide in my

[00:37:50] 4-2-3-1 wide formation both really good and play above their stats yeah there are flaws the

[00:37:57] finishing isn't quite there the pace they're not electric pace wise and if you're running someone

[00:38:02] like a vinnie jr of course they're better but if you're someone new or if you're trying to run a

[00:38:06] cheap team because my thing this weekend was i couldn't build the team i wanted i was indecisive

[00:38:10] with my coins so i was just like you know what i'm just gonna put whatever my best untradeable team is

[00:38:15] out that works chemistry wise and as john said that works with the roles that i want to play as well

[00:38:20] particularly and they both fit it did a really good job um i did drop her for the last

[00:38:25] five or six games um and if i could give a player in review to two players that you'll just

[00:38:30] never get your hands on um shelling and bail icons that you get in the season progress used both of

[00:38:37] those they were excellent especially gareth bale will be no surprise whatsoever um but yeah you says

[00:38:44] and i just want to ask you this as well shaq do you have any or moral or any qualms about using loans

[00:38:54] as someone that actually fell down the trap of using those two loans because i got

[00:38:58] triggered by someone using them against me they are so good in game incredibly good at this stage

[00:39:04] of the game shellin's brilliant with her finesse shots but bail really took me by surprise he is a

[00:39:10] really good card extremely good card now just yeah i don't i don't know when i will actually

[00:39:15] experience a bail in my club but oh my god he's a good card yeah look just use these loans people

[00:39:22] because and don't save them too long like again i know the temptation is to save them for those really

[00:39:27] really must win games and maybe you keep three or four games on these cards but if you've got a 10

[00:39:32] game loan you may as well use them for the second half of your weekend league um and don't feel again

[00:39:38] historically people have frowned upon it and it's only bitterness and i feel it the same whenever i face

[00:39:43] someone using a loan card i'm like oh you'd be rubbish without that loan but then i'm like

[00:39:48] i'm lucky enough to have packed sons so what's the difference um yeah use them you know it's a

[00:39:53] great opportunity to do so um engvie also recommends using unlocking jelena yulve who i just unlocked

[00:39:59] today actually so i'm quite looking forward to using her um she says uh engvie sorry says she's a

[00:40:06] great super sub and very fun card good on the ball and can pass and dribble so i will be giving that one

[00:40:11] a go um in the coming days but that is player and review wrapped up um shaq anything else to add

[00:40:16] before we wrap up the show today i just have one final tip that i have to provide to everyone

[00:40:21] is the fact that there's a card called selna who is from the german dutch women sorry the german

[00:40:28] women's league and she's got powershot plus she's 16 000 coins the svc is if you have some coins lying

[00:40:34] around for 16 000 i think it's definitely worth doing that card just to experience the power shot

[00:40:41] plus how it actually works in game and just two more quick tips that i've been using this this week

[00:40:46] and it's been fun it's probably made the game fun if you're struggling with dribbling i've shared this

[00:40:49] in the discord the l2 r2 is a really good way to dribble especially with the likes of chloe kelly

[00:40:55] lauren hemp those kind of players dan their lauren james was amazing with the l2 r2 as well they

[00:41:01] they just moved the ball really well with those things and if you ever did an elastico in your life

[00:41:07] please if you have a five star player five star skill skill move player just do the elastico but

[00:41:13] just hold the l1 and it just is it's it's it's made i probably didn't get the best result this

[00:41:19] this chant this weekend league because i kept trying these sorts of things but i had fun trying it at

[00:41:24] least so yeah these two things certainly would expect just try it yeah and as we've been saying

[00:41:29] throughout the show this is the time of year to experiment to try new things because um you know

[00:41:34] why not and again the penthouse made a really good point as well and it's something that we've said on

[00:41:38] this show many times as well don't just turn your nose up at a player because they've not been hyped up

[00:41:44] by somebody else online or by us or anything and there's a couple of players that i've liked

[00:41:49] the look of this week um that i think it's rodriguez is it the the center back that's from bettice is real

[00:41:57] you know he's a guider yeah yeah yeah he's 11k but i was looking and thinking oh i need a good

[00:42:03] passing defender to play my play style and i'm looking at him and he's somebody with really good

[00:42:09] long passing three star three star sure he's got defender plus role yeah he's only got 78 pace

[00:42:16] but he's a really good player i've used him a little bit and he's doing the job so

[00:42:22] why not try these players and just have fun like i i think maybe we've been on more on the negative

[00:42:28] side on this show but i think that's because that's we have more to talk about on the negative

[00:42:34] side of things but overall my feelings with this game at the moment probably just sit around i mean

[00:42:38] where do you say i sit probably in a six at six six and a half out of ten enjoyment of this game at

[00:42:44] the moment it's a weird state as i stated before is when the game is working well i really enjoy the

[00:42:50] game i i can go out on a limb and say i really enjoy the game when it's actually working the way i

[00:42:54] want it to work and when things are moving it's a fun game it's really good it's only when things just

[00:43:00] go weird and just go completely polar opposite to what you experienced the previous game that's when

[00:43:05] you start to think is it me is it this is my technique you just go through a whole lot of questions

[00:43:10] but otherwise i think there are some good bones in here i i know it's hard to explain but i feel

[00:43:16] there is something here yeah i the ea have got issues at the moment i think that is holding the

[00:43:22] hype back look i've seen tweets as well you know i called this i'm digging myself up here i called

[00:43:28] this when i first saw this promo that and someone's correctly pointed out the amount of players that are

[00:43:33] in this promo that were in the um rule not rule breakers the uh what was it called yeah yeah

[00:43:40] trailblazers trailblazers that's it that and that they point out that you know there's a

[00:43:44] salah card in both there's a greaseman card in both a marquineos card in both a di lorenzo card

[00:43:49] in both and pointing out to the lack of creativity i agree but i also think that again as i just

[00:43:56] pointed out with this rodriguez card people like certain cards in this game so they want them in

[00:44:02] promo teams the va doesn't release them they're like oh where's all the big players so i understand

[00:44:07] that the evo thing is is not good enough it's just not good enough and i it's disappointed me and it

[00:44:14] takes a massive chunk of hype away from me from this game things like the afk issue in rush also

[00:44:19] takes away the hype but playing games of rush with mates playing cop and rivals um just setting down

[00:44:25] on my own playing and working on certain individual things there is enough things to enjoy in this game

[00:44:30] to keep you going and if you are at that point where you're a bit burnt out as we've said throughout

[00:44:35] the show don't feel like you need to go on the rewards treadmill because it's not worth it

[00:44:40] as john said we are now at a point where you can't do everything realistically you can but you're going

[00:44:46] to be spending a lot of time if you want to get weekend league rewards rivals rewards squad battles

[00:44:50] rewards friendlies objectives don't put yourself through it because the evidence is is so clear

[00:44:57] that you will not be guaranteed good rewards just from completing all these things yeah increases your

[00:45:02] chances but the pack weight is still dire and you're not going to miss out the game will move on

[00:45:09] players that will replace those players so even if you're freaking out about not having packed gold

[00:45:14] miller towel for example three weeks from now there will be an equally good defender in a promo that's

[00:45:20] 20k yeah and it you know so just try try and relax and have fun out there as 40 was saying as the guys

[00:45:27] on art of foot were saying focus on the stuff that you can control don't focus on what everybody else

[00:45:34] is doing if you're enjoying something do it if you're not enjoying something step away from it and

[00:45:39] i think that's kind of my closing thoughts really that's that's completely fair um and that does it

[00:48:11] before then the pre-panic for the actual panic which will actually be the real panic so

[00:48:16] if you know what that what i mean there will be some time so it's a good time to try and liquid it
